Lithuania Contributes to the Restoration of Ukraine's Telecommunications Sector with a €20,000 Donation to the ITU Fund

Lithuania has transferred €20,000 to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Special Fund in Trust for Ukraine, aimed at rebuilding the country’s telecommunications sector, which has been devastated by Russia's military invasion. This contribution will help finance the planning and design of communication station restoration projects.

"With Russia's war against Ukraine ongoing for almost 3 years, Lithuania continues its consistent support for Ukraine and contributes to its reconstruction. The restoration of telecommunications infrastructure is a critical step in rebuilding the country," said Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.

Lithuania is the second European Union country to contribute to this fund, which has collected nearly €150,000 since 2022. Other contributors include the Czech Republic and Japan.

Lithuania actively participates in initiatives supporting Ukraine’s telecommunications sector. Experts from Lithuania’s Communications Regulatory Authority contributed to an ITU report assessing the damage caused by Russia's war to Ukraine’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Since April 2022, Lithuanian institutions have ensured radio broadcasts from Lithuanian territory to temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine. This service provides Ukrainian residents with impartial information from Ukrainian authorities through alternative channels.
