Lithuanian professionals working with Palestinian youth

A project called “Strenghtening Youth Civic Action through Non-Formal Education” was carried out on the October 25 – November 3, 2013 in the West Bank town of Abudis. Nine experts from Lithuania - journalists, audiovisual art experts and non-formal education trainers -  worked with youth groups from a school, university and a non-governmental organization.

Three groups of the Palestinian youth were composed of enthusiastic, motivated schoolchildren and university students. The group work was dedicated to transfer skills and knowledge in the fields of ideas‘, projects’ realization, the use of journalistic and audiovisual skills for community needs.

The peak of the work with these young people was the olive harvesting activity on the last day of the project. This was organized by the students of the Al Quds University.

The aim of the project is to contribute to the Palestinian social, cultural and community development. It also aims at the process of strengthening the non-governmental contacts between Lithuania and Palestine. In the context of the future cooperation, the local Palestinian organizations are willing to continue and build up the cooperation.

During the visit to the West Bank, the group of Lithuanian professionals had the opportunity to visit refugee camps; meet activists of a non-violent resistance. They have also received a briefing from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), had a visit to the Ministry of Information of Palestine.

The project is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Lithuania together with other international partners.
