On 9-10 December in Luxembourg, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas attended an informal meeting of ministers for development cooperation and stressed the importance of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda - the new global framework to help eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development by 2030.
“The global fight against poverty, illiteracy, epidemic, the exploitation of women and children, pollution and climate change can create preconditions for sustainable development and the making of powerful countries, if at the same time systematic efforts will be made to ensure peace, democracy, the rule of law and good governance. Therefore, remaining a reliable partner and a global leader in achieving sustainable development goals, the EU has to encourage and support the political, economic and social reform processes in developing countries,” said Krivas.
According to Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister, the implementation of these ambitious goals must be based on the appropriate use of the Official Development Assistance (ODA), mobilisation of internal resources and attraction of investments. The EU has to help partners with better tax collection and creation of favourable environment for private investment. Krivas also drew attention to the remaining development challenges in the EU’s neighbourhood.
