Vilnius hosts informal meeting of the Working Party on Development Cooperation

The informal meeting of the Working Party on Development Cooperation (CODEV) took place in Vilnius on 3-4 October . The meeting discussed key issues on the agenda for European development cooperation.

The meeting focused on outcomes of a special UN event to follow up efforts made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which was held on 25 September in New York. Representatives of the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the EU Member States discussed future EU effort to shape the post-2015 Development Agenda, which would determine the implementation of future objectives of the development policy, especially the main goal to eradicate poverty. Participants agreed to continue to advocate for a common EU position on a single, overarching and universally applicable framework.

Traditionally, the rotating Presidency holds the informal meeting of the Working Party on Development Cooperation (CODEV) in the same half of the year. Representatives of the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the General Secretariat of the Council discuss a variety of important political topics related to development cooperation.
