Development Cooperation with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is a partner country on Lithuania's development cooperation agenda. It is one of the countries of the EU's Eastern Partnership, which Lithuania consistently supports in implementing the provisions of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Azerbaijan in pursuit of greater reforms in the country.

As a democratic state, which relatively recently underwent the implementation of democratization reforms, Lithuania actively shares the accumulated experience in European integration and other areas, and jointly implements development cooperation projects.

The strategic objectives of Lithuania's development cooperation policy have been determined based on the needs of Azerbaijan, the Programme of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, and the priorities of the EU Eastern Partnership Policy.

Aid for Azerbaijan

Lithuania implements development cooperation projects in Azerbaijan since 2006.

In 2006-2020, 16 projects were implemented in Azerbaijan, for which about 100 000 euros were allocated from the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme. The aid was provided in the areas of environmental protection, strengthening administrative capacity and good governance, regional development, promotion of women's economic and social activity, and social protection.

In 2021, one bilateral project worth 10 000 euros was implemented in Azerbaijan, focusing on environmental protection and climate change.

In 2022, one bilateral project worth 10 000 euros was implemented in Azerbaijan, focusing on gender equality and women empowerment.
