Advancing Women‘s Rights Through Increasing Social Media Skills

The project aims to  contribute to strengthening gender equality in Mongolia through promoting women's voices in public discourse and challenging gender stereotypes on social media platforms.

Project results
  • Out of 109 applicants, 20 participants were selected to improve their approach to gender equality issues and to improve their knowledge and skills on how to use social media and information technologies effectively.
  • Three workshops were organised: 1) "How to use social media effectively"; 2) "Mobile journalism"; 3) "Effective social media campaigning" and a creative workshop on social media poster production.
  • A mobile journalism competition was organised to encourage the production of effective video messages that challenge gender stereotypes and strengthen women's voices on political issues.

The project seeks to strengthen participation of girls and women in technology driven businesses in Mongolia.

Project results
  • Analysis of the specific needs of the target groups and an environmental study was carried out.
  • A digital literacy programme and an implementation plan have been developed. Training material was developed and uploaded to the distance learning system.
  • Selection of participants for the training was carried out. Two parts of the training were conducted: Part 1 - the way for girls in STEM; Part 2 - digital technology entrepreneurship.

Project goal

Project aims to  empower marginalized women to promote their activism and meaningful participation in democratic processes and  raise their voices and ultimately run for local elections.

Project results
  • In order to ensure the sustainability and continuity of the project, 150 women participants were carefully selected in Mongolia's remote rural areas, in collaboration with local NGOs, academia, political parties, the media and local institutions.
  • Training was provided using the most innovative and appropriate resources in the field of women's empowerment, selected by the international and national community. Participants were involved in communication with the media about their success stories, new experiences and ongoing changes.
  • An online platform has been created where the 150 trained women will be able to continue to share their experiences, knowledge and skills on leadership and local democracy and to organise events. This will strengthen cooperation and the dissemination of women's leadership in other regions and the local community.

Project results
  • Ensured continuous support and technical maintenance of the international website www.womenindemocracy.org, which presents and promotes gender equality in the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, and Central Asia.
  • Performed daily news monitoring and selection for the website sections "News," "Opinion," and "Facebook"; periodically updated the sections "Politics," "Governance and Economy," "Violence against Women," and "International Organizations" with relevant information, and uploaded visual materials.
  • Prepared and posted four original interviews with women leaders from the region (posted in the section "Interviews with Leaders").
  • Written six informational and analytical articles.
  • Strengthened Lithuania's role as a coordinator of gender equality in the region (Eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, Central Asia).
  • Through its activities, the website discredits anti-democratic propaganda and disinformation in the region.

Project results
  • Ensured continuous content maintenance and technical support of the website, with updated sections. A new section, "Interviews with Women Leaders," and additional topical sections (Politics; Governance and Economy; Violence against Women; International Organizations) were created.
  • Daily news monitoring and selection were performed. News was posted in the website's sections "News," "Opinion," and "Facebook," along with visual materials.
  • Prepared and posted 12 original interviews with women leaders from the region on the website.
  • Wrote 12 informational and analytical texts.
  • Strengthened Lithuania's role as a coordinator of gender equality in the region (Eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, Central Asia).
  • The information and news provided on the website regarding gender equality issues are regularly read by 526 individuals from all world regions.

Project goal

To continue supporting and developing the international website www.womenindemocracy.org, which promotes and presents gender equality in the Community of Democracies and other countries (especially in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, and Central Asia) since 2012.

Project results
  • Daily monitoring of news and information databases regarding women's status and gender equality issues was conducted.
  • Contacts were established with target NGOs from 15 countries in the region, and an analysis of national government documents, legal materials, and ongoing gender equality initiatives was performed.
  • Materials were prepared and published on the website to familiarize the Lithuanian public with gender equality implementation initiatives in the region.
  • A multi-day online forum on relevant equal opportunities issues was organized. The main result was an effectively functioning website.

Development Cooperation with Nigeria

The strategic objectives of Lithuania's development cooperation policy have been determined based on the needs of Mongolia, the Programme of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

Assistance to Mongolia

Lithuania has been implementing development cooperation projects in Mongolia since 2017.

In 2017‒2021, 11 projects were implemented in Mongolia with the funds of the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme, for which 132,5 thousand euros were allocated. Projects focused on the areas of promoting women's social and economic activity, gender equality, and strengthening administrative and institutional capacities.
