Lithuania supports more effective employment of disabled women in Ukraine

Development cooperation project “Empowerment Policy Programme for Women with Disabilities “GET EMPLOYED” is currently being implemented in 3 regions of Ukraine (Chernigiv, Vinnitsa, Chernivtsi). The main goal of the project is to improve the employability of disabled women with difficulties in accessing the labour market and strengthen advocacy capacities.

Interregional School-Training for Trainers, held on June 6-8th, was the start of the long–term employment advocacy training programme. The agenda included following key modules: human rights advocacy combating labour discrimination and strategy of civic education against disabled discrimination in labour market. Lithuanian experience was presented by representative from Anykščiai Women`s Information and Employment Center. The Training was based on the principles and practice of non-formal education.

As a result, a group of 15 key female leaders (3 regional teams) was trained to act as educators and campaigners. They got knowledge about labour rights advocacy skills and antidiscrimination practice, skills in small business planning and skills during an interview with employer.

Three Regional seminars on labour advocacy took place in Chernigiv, Vinnitsa and Chernivtsi. Local Disabled people organizations leaders, recruiters, employment center officers, businessmen and journalists took part in the seminars. The education model was designed as an open learning process based on Ukrainian and Lithuanian experience in the field of labour advocacy and antidiscrimination practices for vulnerable groups. As the result, participants got labour advocacy and modern antidiscrimination skills.

Upcoming activities of the project: personal development trainings (9 events in 3 regions), round-tables on labour policy and social accompaniment (3 events in 3 regions), and vacancy fairs (in Vinnitsa on September 9th, in Chernivtsi on September 15th and in Chernigiv on September 17th).

Project is funded by Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and implemented by Human Rights Foundation, Ukraine.
